Mid-century modern in Warsaw’s Praga district
Shades of blue, walnut wood and statement details
This colourful apartment in Warsaw’s Praga district takes its cues from mid-century modern design, with colour and carefully considered details at its heart. The owner was inspired by one of the interiors in the Deer Design portfolio, which the architect developed further by pairing pastel blues, cobalt and green with American walnut veneer, natural stone and dark herringbone flooring. In the open-plan living space, the architect designed a symmetrical kitchen with a granite worktop and matching stone splashback. Rounded corners soften the cabinetry, while understated handles and statement lighting add character. Instead of the originally planned island, a generous dining table creates a natural connection between the kitchen and living room, as well as a welcoming space for shared meals.

In the bathroom, the details become even more expressive. A lacquered blue vanity with a stone top, a distinctive mosaic floor, blue-grey veined tiles and a blue radiator come together in a cohesive, layered scheme.
The bedroom introduces a warmer palette and an extra dose of colour. The bespoke cabinetry is finished with handles from the same collection used in the bathroom, creating a subtle sense of continuity throughout the apartment.
“With such a varied palette of colours and materials, repeating a few key elements was essential. Blue reappears across the bespoke cabinetry and smaller details, curved forms are echoed in both the kitchen and bathroom, while stone and wood provide a consistent material foundation. The result is an interior that feels colourful and eclectic, yet considered and cohesive.”
